Painful in Canada

by: J. F. on Tue, Apr 22 2008

Two years ago I was diagnosed with diverticulosis. After three attacks, and hospital visits, my doctor had a sigmoid enama scope done to comfirm that I had severe diverticulitis I found that my family doctor was not very familiar with the symptoms of this disease, and almost reluctant to do anything about it other then tell me to eat more fibre. Frustrated, and yet another attack later, the emergency doctor referred me to a surgeon He did a cat scan and a colonoscopy, which I had yesterday to make sure that there was no other concerns with the colon, such as polyps, (my mother died of colon cancer at 60 years of age). Thank God, there was no signs of polyps, but about a foot of my colon is full of pockets caused by my diverticular disease

Surgery for a resection is going to be booked. My frustration with my family doctor lead me to a natural path doctor to help me with my diet to help prevent further attacks. She has been a life saver, a little pricey but well worth the effort. She cut gluten, sugars, and dairy out of my diet. I was put on acidopholus and bifidus, and some other herbal medications, and I have been attack free for several months now, although I get twinges and some low scale pain in my left lower side now and again, but nothing like a full blown attack. If this can help someone else, I hope it does, because I’m all to familar with the pain and this has really helped me.
